A usable RFQ has 12 fields:
Application: drone arm, jig, medical table, automotive trim
Fiber grade: T300 / T700 / T800, or "industrial T700 equivalent"
Resin system: epoxy / phenolic / BMI / thermoplastic PA6-CF
Form: plate / tube / molded part / honeycomb panel
Layup: 0/90, quasi-isotropic, unidirectional, twill face
Thickness and tolerance: 3mm ±0.05 or ±0.1, not "standard"
Surface: matte / glossy / bond-ready matte
Size or DXF/STEP file with hole callouts
Edge treatment: deburred / chamfered / sealed
Quantity: prototype 5 pcs vs batch 500 pcs changes process
Post-process: CNC holes, inserts, clear coat, adhesive backing
Acceptance: fiber volume content, flatness, ILSS or tensile report if needed
If you only give a drawing, expect the factory to quote the cheapest makeable version. That is not lying - it is what "carbon fiber plate" means to a shop.
Rule: specify load direction, not just thickness. Carbon is directional. A 3mm plate strong in one axis can be weak on the bias.
